Rehab Centres in Cape Town

Private, structured recovery in Cape Town and online, without stepping away from your life.

Road2Recovery is a private outpatient rehab programme based in Crawford, Cape Town, running since 2014. The structured 12 week programme uses cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing, with twice weekly sessions in month one and weekly sessions through months two and three. It is also delivered online across South Africa and internationally.

What to look for in a rehab centre

Most people comparing rehab centres in Cape Town are working from a list of names and very little else. The questions worth asking are practical ones: how often do sessions actually run, which therapeutic methods are used, is there medical oversight when it is needed, and what happens once the structured part finishes.

A programme that cannot answer those clearly is asking for a significant commitment on trust alone. Ours runs twice weekly in the first month, then weekly through months two and three, built around cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing and relapse prevention. A GP is available for the medical side, and an aftercare plan is built with you before the twelve weeks end.

Outpatient or residential

Searching for a rehab centre often assumes residential care is the only serious option. For many people it is not. Outpatient treatment means keeping your job, staying with your family and applying what you work on in the environment where it actually has to hold.

Residential care is the right call in some situations, particularly where withdrawal carries physical risk or the home environment is genuinely unsafe. We will say so plainly if that is what your assessment suggests, and help you understand what to look for. Read more about how we compare inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Where we are, and who we can reach

Face to face sessions take place in Crawford, Cape Town, which is reachable from the southern suburbs, the city bowl and the Cape Flats. The full programme is also delivered online, which matters if you are outside the Western Cape, travel for work, or simply want the discretion of not sitting in a waiting room.

Online clients get the same team and the same structure. We have worked with people across South Africa and internationally on exactly this basis.

Cost, medical aid and waiting lists

Cover for addiction treatment varies significantly between medical aid providers and plan types. Rather than guess, bring your details to the first consultation and our team will help you check what can realistically be claimed before you commit.

Public facilities in the Western Cape do valuable work but typically involve waiting periods. There is no waiting list here. If the fit is right, the programme can begin as soon as the assessment is complete.

What the first month looks like

Month one runs twice weekly and does the foundational work. The early sessions establish an honest picture of the situation, identify the specific circumstances and states that precede use, and put the first practical tools in place. This is deliberately the most intensive part of the programme, because structure built early is what the remaining weeks rely on.

From month two the rhythm moves to weekly. By then the work shifts from establishing tools to applying them against whatever ordinary life produces, which is the part that determines whether change holds after the programme ends.

The team you work with

You work with the same people throughout, rather than being handed between staff. The team includes a programmes facilitator, a transformation coach with a BSocSci in psychology, a holistic treatment facilitator, and a general practitioner acting as medical advisor for anything requiring clinical oversight.

Continuity matters more in recovery than it does in most care settings. Repeating your history to a new person every few weeks is exhausting and it slows the work down.

Confidentiality

As a B-BBEE Level 1 accredited South African practice we hold to a clear standard: nothing you share, not your name, not your situation, not even the fact that you made contact, is disclosed without your explicit consent. All information is handled in line with POPIA.

Common questions

Do you have a waiting list?

No. Once an assessment is complete and the programme is the right fit, you can begin straight away.

Can I keep working during the programme?

Yes. The outpatient structure is designed around that. Sessions run twice weekly in month one and weekly thereafter, scheduled around your commitments.

Do you treat people outside Cape Town?

Yes. The full 12 week programme runs online for clients anywhere in South Africa and internationally, with the same team and structure.

What happens at the first consultation?

A private, no obligation conversation about your situation, so a plan can be built around what you actually need rather than a generic programme.

Is residential care available here?

We are an outpatient practice. Where residential care or medical detox is needed first, we help coordinate it with qualified partners before structured therapy begins.
